Music Works

The Otto Foundation is partnering with MusicWorks to offer their Music for Life programme at Zonnebloem. The Music For Life programme is an after-school programme consisting of marimba bands and gumboot dance workshops that help learners to master musical and creative skills. MusicWorks provides training to teachers to “bring music back into the classroom”.

MusicWorks Interventions are grounded in the principles of music therapy, supporting learners’ social, cognitive and emotional development, and ultimately impacting the psychosocial fabric of their larger communities. This programme also creates opportunities for young people to be witnessed appreciatively within their own communities, and beyond - thus building self-esteem.

How can you help us

  • Friends of the Otto Foundation - get in touch if you would like our talented marimba players or African dance team to perform at your event.

  • Donors - if music moves you, then help us to continue to fund this project at Zonnebloem Boys' and Girls' Primary Schools, or to expand it to other schools in District Six.

“The future of South Africa rests in the hands of our youth. We must support them, in every way we can,

to imagine a future with infinite possibilities, and equip them with the skills that they will need to build that future”.
